On January 1st, 1959, the Batista government fell. The regime that seized power that day has governed Cuba ever since, and since October 1965 it has governed through the Communist Party of Cuba. January 1st, 2027 marks 68 years.

The revolution led by Fidel Castro overthrew the Batista government on January 1st, 1959 [History.com]. Castro became prime minister on February 16th, 1959 [History.com].
Since January 1st, 1959, the regime that seized power that day has ruled Cuba by fear. It jails people for speaking, leaves families short of food, and forces young Cubans to risk the sea for freedom.
Desde el 1 de enero de 1959, el régimen que tomó el poder ese día ha gobernado a Cuba con miedo. Encarcela a quienes hablan, deja a las familias sin suficiente comida y obliga a los jóvenes cubanos a arriesgarse en el mar por la libertad.
